Happy Pioneer Day St. George! Southern Utah Is Buzzing with Activity

St. George, Utah – it’s Friday, July 24, 2015 … a.k.a. Utah’s Pioneer Day! For those that didn’t get enough fireworks on the 4th of July, today represents the second most explosive day in the Beehive State. While most outside of the state of Utah scratch their heads when they hear about our quaint little holiday, today’s celebration is meant to commemorate the day Brigham Young and the first group of latter-day Saints wandered into the great Salt Lake Valley on July 24, 1847.

St. George, Utah – Celebrate Pioneer Day at Sunset on the Square – 5 p.m.

Kicking off ‘Sunset on the Square’ at the Town Square Park at 5p.m. – located at 175 E. 200 North – this family-friendly event will feature games made famous in the old West and will immediately be followed by a scheduled movie at 5 PM. Culminating with fireworks after the movie, this St. George Pioneer Day celebration is family tradition all can enjoy.

Washington City, Utah – Pioneer Day Celebrations – 6 p.m.

Washington City’s Pioneer Day festivities will feature a street fair vibe with local vendors, live performances, gastronomical delights, family-friendly amusements and much, much more. The skies over Washington City will light up with celebratory Fireworks beginning at 10 p.m. tonight. Held at the Washington City Community Center, come early to assure your seating near the aquatic center’s pool. Pioneer Day admission is $2 a head, and $1 for children three years old and younger. Located at 350 N. Community Center Drive.

Hurricane, Utah – Pioneer Day 5K Run – Start time 7 a.m.

For the energetically inclined – the St. George Running Club is starting off the Pioneer Day celebrations with a 5K run. Kicking off the event with chocolate milk and donuts for all, the Pioneer Day 5K run will benefit those less fortunate folks in southern Utah. Admission is two cans of food, and simple prizes for overall winners, all kids and those in pioneer attire. Registration is at 6:30 a.m., and there will be donuts and chocolate milk for all. Location: Hurricane Community Center, 63 S. 100 West, Hurricane

Cedar City, Utah – Pioneer Day Parade – 8 a.m.

Courtesy of the Sons and Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Cedar City’s festivities begin at 8 a.m. at the Old Rock Church. A Pioneer Day Parade will then meander down Main Street starting at 10 a.m. Beginning at 200 South and ending at 400 North. The celebrations will continue at Main Street City Park after the parade; featuring food, merriment and mixing Location: Old Rock Church, 75 E. Center Street, Cedar City.
